Mass Association of Health Underwriters Announces New Leadership

| July 30, 2019

Boston – Massachusetts Association of Health Underwriters (MassAHU) is entering into its 2019-2020 fiscal year under new leadership, as Matthew Shadrick, Executive Vice President of Eastern Benefits, takes the helm as President of the association.

“There is constant change in the field of employee benefits. We are gearing up for implementation of the new MA Paid Family and Medical Leave Act, final regulations for Individual Health Care Reimbursement Arrangements (ICHRA), further changes to the ACA, and many others. Employers need the advice of knowledgeable benefits brokers and consultants now more than ever,” according to Shadrick. “It gives me great pleasure to represent MassAHU in serving the educational and advocacy needs of our members as we all diligently help Massachusetts employers and their employees adapt to these changes.”

In addition, MassAHU welcomes Julie Jennings as Executive Director. Jennings, who has served NAHU and MassAHU on a state, regional and national basis over the past several years, began her tenure on July 1 with the retirement of longtime Executive Director Kate Bardsley.

“Kate has been a tremendous asset to MassAHU, and we thank her for all she has contributed over the past 15 years, especially for being a warm and welcoming ambassador and true friend. I have some big shoes to fill there,” says Jennings. “I’m excited about my new role with MassAHU, and I hope to bring more success and services to our membership through my years of experience as a broker and my past leadership within the association.”

Joining Shadrick and Jennings on the executive team are Todd McDonald, Senior Partner, Alera Group; Joe Lawler, VP Employee Benefits, USI Insurance Services; Bill Stuart, Director of Strategy and Compliance at Benefit Strategies, Inc.; and Chris Powers, SVP-Benefits, Risk Strategies Company, who has just completed a two-year term as President of MassAHU.
The 15-member MassAHU board also welcomed new members Naomi Francken, Sales Manager, NFP/Health Services Administrators; and Eric Gulko, President, Innovo Benefits Group this year.
