Thumbnail previewThe NAHU letter supporting draft legislation to amend the relevant sections of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) and exempt independent health insurance agent and broker compensation from the new law’s medical loss ratio (MLR) calculation in its entirety.

The MLR requirements in PPACA are currently having a devastating financial impact on the country’s approximately half-million licensed professional health insurance agents and brokers, as well as on all of their employees and their millions of employer and individual clients. Independent health insurance agents and brokers work on a daily basis to help individual consumers and employers of all sizes purchase health insurance, use their coverage effectively and make sure they get the most out of the benefits they have purchased. They design benefit plans and solve problems that may occur once coverage is in place, and most are small-business owners themselves.
